Workshop: The Alchemy of Play: Mixed Media Collage Exploration
Date & Time: April 12, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location: Everson Museum
Instructor/Artist: Catherine Spencer
Workshop Description:
Join us for an immersive mixed-media collage workshop inspired by the transformative themes of Alchemy of a Seed. This assemblage-based activity invites participants to explore a variety of 2D and some 3D materials, experimenting with texture, layering, and composition to create dynamic works of art.
Through hands-on exploration, participants will experiment with color, texture, and form, using play as a tool for discovery. Some grounding reflection, guidance, and instruction will support individual creative explorations. Still, this session is largely self-directed—encouraging artistic agency, risk-taking, and personal expression through material exploration.
Materials Provided:
✨ A selection of paper, fabric, found images, and organic textures
✨ Some 3D elements for added dimensionality
✨ Adhesives, scissors, and backing boards
Participants are also welcome to bring any personal materials they’d like to incorporate into their collage.
This drop-in workshop is free with museum admission, with pre-registration encouraged. No prior experience is necessary—just bring an open mind and a willingness to experiment!
