In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore how light interacts with materials to create color, reflection, and movement. Using iridescent films,  mirrors, and transparent surfaces children will build layered collages that shift and change as light moves across them. This workshop encourages experimentation, curiosity, and sensory engagement while introducing basic ideas about light, color, and abstraction.

Ages 6-14

Create a meaningful object through fabric, stitch, and texture in this hands-on soft sculpture workshop. Participants will design and construct their own small talisman using fabric, stitching, and embellishment techniques such as embroidery and beading. A talisman can be anything you want it to be—a symbol of protection, a holder of memory, or a reflection of a feeling or intention.

This workshop introduces approachable sewing and surface design techniques while encouraging experimentation and personal expression. Participants will explore how color, texture, and material choices can carry meaning, transforming simple fabrics into layered, tactile forms.

No prior sewing experience is required. This workshop is open to all skill levels and welcomes anyone interested in working with their hands, exploring soft materials, and creating something uniquely their own.

This program is free of charge with Museum Admission. Please register ahead to guarantee a space.

Observational drawing focuses on drawing directly from real-life subjects rather than from memory or imagination—simply put, it is drawing what you see. In this two-part workshop, participants will practice looking closely and slowly to record what they observe. Through demonstrations and short exercises, students will learn to measure proportions, recognize basic shapes, and understand positive and negative spacewhile exploring the basics of classical drawing techniques.
AUDIENCE: No experience required, beginners are encouraged.

6-Week Intro to Ceramics Class

Fridays 1:30pm-4:30pm, June 12-July 17, 2026

Class fee of $350 includes clay, glazes, and firing fees. 12 spots available.

In this 6-week introductory ceramics class, students will spend half of each class working on the pottery wheel and the other half exploring hand-building techniques. In this class, we will explore pinch, coil, and slab building techniques, in addition to throwing and trimming on the wheel. In the sixth class, we will glaze work to be picked up one week later. Students will use food-safe glazes to finish their own bisque-fired ceramic pottery. 

Your teacher, Catherine Walsh, is a trained ceramic artist with a BFA in ceramics and a master’s degree in art education. She has taught ceramics at Buffalo Art Studio, Terra Clay Studio, Pearl City Clayhouse, Chautauqua Institution, and Niagara Falls High School in addition to creating her own work as Center Circle Ceramics, and working as Manager of School and Family Programs at the Everson.
